HRGO Sussex have an excellent opportunity for a Cost and Process Engineering Manager for an International client based in Sussex. As the Cost Engineering Manager you will join an active Technical team utilising your knowledge, experience and enthusiasm to assist driving key efficiency projects through operational functions, in addition to supporting the new product development programme.
Key Responsibilities
Variety of cost engineering and process management projects through a team of test and production engineers as well as through selected supply partners (particularly Far East), key aspects of the role are: -
Cost Reduction
Scrutinise identified products requiring value engineering cost down initiatives. This will involve identifying cost opportunities and make design changes and/or process changes as necessary.
Analyse warranty returns data to identify trends and make appropriate modifications to improve product reliability.
Identify opportunities in assembly processes to reduce costs using knowledge of fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment, assembly methods and quality control standards.
Alongside the manufacturing operations team, to work on continuous improvement methods such as lean manufacturing to enhance manufacturing quality, reliability, or cost-effectiveness.
Design Support - Current Products
Manage reactive technical product issues requiring product knowledge and problem solving skills.
Respond to requests from suppliers to manage component obsolescence.
Determine the root causes of any product efficiency or failure issues and drive through necessary modifications.
Make design changes to existing products as required.
Production Engineering
Design the layout of equipment or workspaces to achieve maximum efficiency.
Incorporate new methods and processes to improve existing operations.
Investigate or resolve operational problems, such as material use variances or bottlenecks.
Design testing methods and test finished products or process capabilities to establish standards or validate process requirements.
New Product Development
To provide going process engineering support to the New Project team on the following:
Ensuring that early product specification in the new product development process captures relevant cost efficiency principles in both product design and process engineering
Create and agree product specifications with key stakeholders
Estimate costs, production times, or staffing requirements for new product designs.
Review product designs for manufacturability or completeness.
Prepare documentation for new manufacturing processes or engineering procedures.
Design, purchase and install, and/or troubleshoot manufacturing equipment.
Project Planning and management
Deliver projects to specification and within budget
Ability to work under general supervision and only be reviewed at project milestones and/or on completion of tasks
Develop and maintain detailed project plans
Present costs, changes and budgetary information effectively to senior management
Track tasks against the project timing plan
Manage project deliverables in line with the project plan
Record and manage project issues and escalate where necessary
Manage the project scope and change control and escalate issues where necessary
Provide status reports to the project sponsor
Qualifications and Experience Levels:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a similar qualification.
Minimum of 5 years manufacturing or design engineering experience
Proven experience of leading a small high performance team of engineers and technicians teams in a fast-paced environment
Preferably an ability in 2D/3D CAD system (Ideally Solidworks)
Experience in Bill of Material (BOM) structures
Understanding of legislation and standards (IEC60335, UL778)
Deep knowledge of manufacturing and production processes and concepts such as Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing and Kaizen.
IT Skills: Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Visio, Microsoft Access, Microsoft Project, AutoCAD, Label software and ERP Systems
Relationship Management
Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure optimal performance
Work collaboratively, negotiate and engage with key stakeholders to facilitate delivery and compliance with company strategy
Communicate with stakeholders the impact of market change and potential effects on operations activities
Contribute to new business initiatives and projects and review and communicate the impact on manufacturing activities
