Types of Driving Jobs
There are many types of driving jobs, and in some of them, you don’t even need to be behind the wheel! As driving is such a vital part of our modern world, driving jobs are all available across the UK in every area.
HGV Driving Jobs
An HGV is a heavy goods vehicle, effectively a truck or a lorry with a weight of over 7.5 tonnes. The freight industry is booming thanks to the rise of eCommerce, so there is a high demand for van and truck drivers throughout England and the United Kingdom. To become an HGV driver, you must have an HGV driving license, be over 18 and have a certificate of Professional Competence. Still, many companies will also ask you to go through further training or an apprenticeship.
HGV Drivers get an opportunity to climb a career ladder after they get experience and if you love to travel and drive, you’ll like this job. Pay is also competitive, and job security is good, there are also good options for those wanting part-time driving jobs.
Class 2 Driving Jobs
Class 2 driving jobs are a special kind of driving job for HGVs that are now known as LGV category Cs. A class 2 license allows a driver to be able to drive any rigid category C vehicle weighing up to 32 tonnes. Once you’ve got your class 2 driving license, you’ll be able to apply for any HGV job. Class 2 driving jobs come with a higher salary as you have to be responsible for a heavier and therefore more dangerous vehicle.
A logistics supervisor manages a logistics centre via face-to-face interactions with drivers. They help to plan out the driving schedules of the drivers at their logistic centre and are also responsible for the overall performance of the logistics centre (e.g. how many deliveries have been on time or received). Logistics supervisors need to be good managers, but don’t need to be highly competent drivers!
Couriers are one of the oldest jobs in history, but in modern times they can be either car drivers or motorbike/moped drivers. Couriers deliver important packages and need to be efficient and fast. When they work for companies, they transport company commodities and can do so in a small truck or a van.
Bus drivers pick up and drop off travellers along a certain route, ranging from a small vehicle to a large passenger bus that can carry up to 100 passengers. Bus drivers need to have a good focus on safety and must require a commercial driving license, with extra training being a benefit.
