HRGO Education are recruiting for a progressive SEMH school based in Margate, Kent. They are seeking a Teaching Assistant with a passion for supporting young people with SEMH and challenging behaviours. Previous SEND experience is desirable, however training is provided by the school so candidates with a positive attitude that want to begin a career in SEND education will be considered.
You will be supporting pupils in small groups with their learning and managing their emotions/behaviour throughout the school day. The role is full-time, and you will be working alongside class teachers and other Teaching Assistants in small classes of 5 pupils.
The school was rated "Good" by Ofsted and is well resourced to support their young people. It follows a creative and vocational curriculum with lots of outdoor activities for its pupils. The school is located in a country park and is close to the beach. Pupils attend from the surrounding areas of Margate, Broadstairs and Westgate, Thanet, Kent. It has secure on-site parking is available for all staff.
The Teaching Assistant role:
As a Teaching Assistant you will be supporting children on a 1:1 or 2:1 basis with their daily routine at school including classwork and outdoor activities. The activities carried out at the school are based around the SEMH the needs of the children and follow pupils EHCPs. The activities carried out are things like outdoor play, music, baking, crafts etc, in which you will be required to take part in the activity alongside the children to help them to engage in the task.
The young people you will be supporting have social and emotional support requirements and often need a nurturing approach to help them manage their behaviour and emotions. Often they have self-esteem and confidence issues and can struggle in social situations. You will work alongside various staff members and teachers to support each pupil with their personalised learning plans and cater to their individual needs.
