Principal Engineer Highways & Traffic

Rate: £23.37 per hour
Job Purpose:
To carry out the duties of a Principal Engineer in the design and delivery of a wide range of highways design, traffic engineering and traffic management projects.
Act as a technical lead and project manager for a portfolio of schemes and programmes of work.
Work closely with the Highways Contracts & Delivery team to ensure the deliverability, value for money and feasibility of schemes.
Manage the whole delivery process for schemes, from inception through to construction in close collaboration with contractors and highways contracts management officers.
Ensure early contractor involvement in the delivery of schemes and best value engineering solutions.
Respond to various customer enquiries, investigating complaints and providing expert high quality advice and reports relating to highways and traffic issues
Education, Training & Qualifications
HNC/D or Degree in Civil Engineering/Transportation or equivalent or appropriate post graduate qualification.
Desirably Incorporated or Chartered and a member, or working towards membership, of an appropriate institution (CIHT, IHIE, ICE, ILT etc.).
Evidence of significant and ongoing CPD.
Knowledge & Experience
Extensive experience in detailed and/or preliminary design of highways and traffic engineering schemes.
Significant knowledge and understanding of government policies and legislation relating to highways and traffic.
Significant supervisory/management experience.
Excellent knowledge and understanding of specifications and standards in the design of traffic and highways schemes.
Demonstrable experience in investigating highways, traffic and/or parking issues and identifying and designing solutions.
Experience in preparing and managing public consultation processes and presenting information to stakeholders and the public.
Experience or understanding of the use of design software such as AutoCAD.
