HR GO are lookng to recruit an experienced Finance Assistant to Provide accounting support to the finance section relating to transactions in the revenue, capital and the balance sheet accounts. To carry out these accounting transactions in accordance with accounting standards and legislation and appropriate council policies and procedures.

To produce statements and reports from the general ledger system to support the day to day operation of accounting and financial services within the Directorate or Service Area.

Main Duties:

  • Assist officers with budget preparation.

  • Assist with budget monitoring and maintenance.

  • Assist budget holders and officers with all year end procedures.

  • Be responsible for income accounting / receipting and collection where required

  • Conduct monthly bank account reconciliations and take appropriate rectifying actions required.

  • Provide Support in budget holder meetings.

  • Handle a range of queries from budget holders and officers in a courteous manner.

  • Prepare and process journal transfers.

  • Process financial transactions, including car mileage, imprest accounts, debtors accounts and accounts payable.

  • Assist the Finance Officer in providing financial and statistical information as required.

  • Update/ utilise the Council's cooperate General Ledger computer system (Oracle Financials) and other computer control systems.

  • Produce reports using the Council's Financial Information System.

  • Assist with the coordination of responses to internal/ external audit enquiries.

  • Conduct budget preparation including salary estimates, projection of balances etc. with minimal supervision.

  • Carry out all aspects of Financial Administration with minimal supervision.

  • Interpret Data/ information utilising the Councils corporate General Ledger system (Oracle Financials) and other computer control systems.

  • Provide financial advice to budget holders/ customers and respond to queries accurately and without limited assistance.

  • Contribute to the development of service delivery.

  • Raise understanding of accounting principles and standards with non-finance specialists.

  • Assist managers/ customers with their interpretation and application of the Council's Financial Regulations and Standing Orders.

  • Meet with budget holders/ customers independently to assist them.

  • Undertake a range of Year-End closure of accounts procedures with limited assistance.

  • Demonstrate a significant contribution to the development and reporting of budget monitoring procedures.

  • Prepare statistical and other government returns.

  • Contribute on all aspects of the annual budget setting process.

  • Represent the finance team in meetings with others.

  • Assist in the delivery of training to budget holders & officers on financial systems and procedures.

The role is a temporary on-going assignment for potentially 6 months and pays £12.50 an hour.
