Our client is looking for an Assistant Customs Clearance Manager for their established company based in Dover. The role will to be support and manage existing staff at trainee level to senior clerk level. In addition, you will be required to support Management and Senior teams within the wider Global organisation. You must be able to work unsupervised in the day-to-day management of the Customs Clearing teams. Good analytical and excellent organisational skills are requisite, and you must be able to lead a team and work in a methodical and organised environment. This role lends itself to someone who can work on their own initiative, coupled with being experienced in the industry.
Duties Include
Experienced in the completion of full C88 Customs declarations and all that entails (classification, valuation, customs procedures and CPC Codes, knowledge of Duty and VAT etc)
Manage the day-to-day operations for the Customs Clearance Teams
Assist in managing and training all operational staff
Processing Import/Export declarations on a regular basis
Apply changes in regulations, laws, and customs procedures
Updating training manuals and assisting in other areas of administration
Be proficient to carryout Post Clearance correspondence for HMRC
Take responsibility for general enquiries from importers / exporters concerning all areas relating to Customs Procedures, Tariff Classifications and Duty Rates
Calculating Duty / VAT against deferments and managing PVA requests
Must be proficient in Excel, Word and have good written English
Driving licence is beneficial but not essential
Skills & Qualifications:
Conversant with Customs procedures.
High organisational skills and ability to manage many projects and teams at the same time.
Ability to prioritise workload.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
Conversant in IT skills e.g., Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel).
An administrative background.
Must have an analytical skill, with a high level of attention to detail.
Working as part of a team.
Able to work to deadlines and meet targets.
You must be fully conversant with all aspects of Customs procedures and have excellent knowledge and experience in UK and EU Customs relations. A knowledge of Customs Systems and a minimum of 5 years Customs Clearance experience and logistics background would be preferable.
Hours: Monday - Friday 09.00 - 18.00 hrs
