Systems Administrator (2nd Line / Junior 3rd Line)

Overview

We're recruiting a Systems Administrator to support and maintain the company's IT infrastructure, business systems and applications. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced 2nd Line Support Engineer or Junior Systems Administrator looking to broaden their experience across Microsoft 365, infrastructure, business applications and automation.

The role combines hands-on technical support with systems administration and offers the opportunity to become a key technical contact within the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 2nd line technical support, resolving hardware, software, networking and user account issues.
  • Administer Microsoft 365, Active Directory and internal business applications.
  • Support business-critical applications, including portal and CRM-style systems.
  • Assist with application upgrades, maintenance and integrations.
  • Help maintain Windows servers, network infrastructure, backups and system security.
  • Monitor system performance and assist with implementing improvements.
  • Support user onboarding, permissions and account administration.
  • Produce technical documentation and user guides.
  • Deliver user training where required.
  • Maintain IT asset records, hardware inventories and software licensing.
  • Assist with basic scripting, automation and system improvements.
  • Support website updates where required.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Previous experience in a 2nd Line Support, IT Support Engineer, Systems Administrator or similar role.
  • Experience administering Microsoft 365 and Active Directory.
  • Good knowledge of Windows desktop environments.
  • Understanding of networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, DNS and DHCP.
  • Experience supporting business applications and user account management.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Good documentation and organisational skills.
  • A proactive approach with a willingness to learn new technologies.

Desirable

  • Windows Server administration.
  • Group Policy.
  • PowerShell or scripting experience.
  • Virtualisation (Hyper-V or VMware).
  • Experience with CRM, ERP or other business applications.
  • SQL or database knowledge.
  • Website administration or basic web development experience.

Salary

£28,000-£32,000 depending on experience.
