Senior Estimating Engineer / Production Engineer - (Precision Engineering - Aerospace & Oil & Gas)
Join a long-established, market-leading subcontract precision engineering business, delivering complex, high-spec components for aerospace and oil & gas customers. This is a senior, influential position with genuine impact on margin, delivery performance and manufacturing methods.
Reporting to the Director, you'll sit at the intersection of sales, estimating and production engineering. You'll produce accurate, competitive quotations, ensure manufacturability, and act as the technical/commercial link between customers, suppliers and internal production and quality teams.

Key responsibilities

Estimating & commercial

  • Create detailed cost estimates for CNC machined components/assemblies from RFQs, drawings and specifications

  • Interpret complex drawings including GD&T, tolerances, surface finishes and material requirements

  • Obtain competitive pricing for external/special processes (e.g. heat treatment, coating, NDT)

  • Support pricing strategy to stay competitive while protecting margin

  • Clarify technical and commercial requirements with customers during quotation

Sales & customer interface

  • Serve as the technical point of contact for key aerospace and oil & gas customers

  • Build strong relationships to support repeat business and new opportunities

  • Attend customer meetings/technical reviews and support contract negotiations

  • Identify value engineering and cost-reduction opportunities

Production & engineering support

  • Ensure a smooth handover into production with planning and quality teams

  • Review manufacturability and recommend best machining methods, tooling and processes

  • Support process planning, fixture input and continuous improvement

  • Help resolve production issues and non-conformances

Compliance & quality

  • Work to AS9100, ISO 9001 and customer-specific requirements

  • Maintain awareness of traceability, material certification and regulatory obligations

What we're looking for

  • 5-10+ years' experience in precision engineering/subcontract machining

  • Background in estimating and/or production engineering

  • Strong CNC knowledge (turning, milling, multi-axis) and confident with GD&T

  • ERP/MRP and estimating software experience

  • Materials/special process knowledge (e.g. Inconel, titanium, stainless steels, duplex; NDT, coatings, heat treatment)

  • Strong cost analysis skills with margin/overhead awareness and confident customer-facing communication.

  • 38-hour week: Mon-Thu 07:00-16:00 (or 08:00-17:00) with 30 mins lunch; Fri 08:00-12:00
