Our client is a specialist contractor delivering high-quality architectural metal and glass solutions across the UK. They are recognised for their expertise in the design, supply, and installation of safety-critical and technically complex systems, including balustrades, balconies, staircases, external flooring, bespoke metalwork, and fire remediation works.

Operating a collaborative, expert-led model, the business works closely with developers, contractors, architects, and consultants from pre-construction through to installation, ensuring buildable, compliant, and high-performing design solutions.


Role Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Designer to join their growing design team. This is a permanent, hybrid role based in Ashford, offering flexibility between office and home working.

You will take ownership of architectural metal and glass design packages, producing accurate technical drawings and ensuring design intent is maintained from concept through to manufacture and site installation. The role involves close collaboration with internal teams and clients, proactive design risk management, and delivering practical, compliant solutions across multiple projects.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead design development and coordination for architectural metal and glass systems

  • Produce detailed technical, construction, and fabrication drawings

  • Work closely with clients during pre-construction and live project stages

  • Coordinate with project management, fabrication, and installation teams

  • Maintain design integrity through to site installation

  • Identify and manage design and installation risks

  • Ensure compliance with UK Building Regulations, fire safety requirements, and British Standards

  • Support technical submissions, RFIs, and design reviews

  • Attend design meetings and site visits as required

  • Contribute to the ongoing improvement of design standards and processes


Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience as a Senior Designer within architectural metalwork, glass, façade, or external envelope design

  • Minimum 3 years' experience using 2D and 3D CAD software

  • Strong understanding of compliance, safety standards, and fire remediation

  • Solid knowledge of balustrades, balconies, staircases, and external flooring systems

  • Understanding of installation methods, sequencing, and tolerances

  • Excellent communication and coordination skills

  • Ability to manage complex designs and deliver buildable, compliant solutions

  • Relevant degree preferred but not essential
