We are looking for a Safety Officer

To act as a competent person, ensuring that safety, health and environmental management policies comply with legislative requirements and are applied consistently and rigorously across the business. To help drive a culture of health, safety and environmental excellence throughout the business.

Further develop, create, review and implement safe systems of work and risk assessments across the business to include site projects.

Assist in the development and deliverance of the internal ISO 45001 audit plan.

Monitor and assist the Project Team with the implementation of suitable project risk assessments and method statements.

Advise the business on statutory changes in health and safety legislation.

Work closely with the MSM and the Managing Director to ensure the long-term introduction of all business improvements relevant to Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S).

Provide a monthly EH&S management report to the board.

Ensure health and safety policies and procedures are implemented, communicated and adhered to by everyone.

Carry out incident and near-miss investigations and apply corrective and preventive actions.

Provide support to ensure compliance where CDM regulations and duty holder appointments apply.

Maintain the health and safety training matrix, updating as required by health and safety policies and personal development plans. Ensure all personnel have up to date training plans and any shortfalls are addressed. Source and book training courses through HR as required, inform all parties and ensure the programme is updated.

Work with consultants and external auditors to manage and deliver the current audit plan, ensuring that all areas are compliant with our policies and procedures. Actively contribute to continuous improvement.

Manage and review safety data sheets and compose COSHH risk assessments for company safety files.

Coordinate regular site safety inspections on our customer's sites. Carry out required

housekeeping and health and safety inspections at business premises. Look after the health, safety and welfare of all employees.

Organise and chair environmental, health and safety committee meetings. Attend other meetings as requested.

Person Specification

Overview of required qualifications, knowledge, experience, skills and attributes.

Essential:

Minimum of 3 years working in an operational role with direct EH&S responsibilities

English and Maths GCSE at Grade C or above or equivalent

Health and safety qualification at diploma level through NEBOSH or IOSH

Experience and knowledge of CDM

Good ICT skills

Ability to manage several tasks concurrently and meet deadlines

Be hardworking and conscientious with the ability to motivate and support

Have the ability to work calmly under pressure

Show good initiative, be enthusiastic, self-motivated and lead by example

Hold a valid driving licence

Desirable:

Mechanical and electrical/construction experience

Experience with Net Zero

Knowledge of ISO 45001
