HR GO Recruitment are currently assisting with the search of Port Health Support Officers in the Ashford and surrounding area. The main focus of this role will be to conduct official controls and checks in order to safeguard public health.
Main duties:
Applying port health controls in accordance with statutory regulations and provisions to protect public health
Perform physical, documentary and identity checks to ensure that only 'safe-to-eat' products enter the food chain
To be responsible for the maintaining and disposal of samples as well as dispatch records
To assist other colleagues in the performance of port health checks and sampling when necessary
To assist in the destruction of unsatisfactory goods via the correct waste facility
Undertake necessary enforcement and investigative action when required
To prepare and collate evidence for relevant reports or evidence in court at public enquiries
To carry out relevant database and administrative tasks and using Information Management Systems such as PHILIS, IPAFFS and FSA.
Constantly maintain your knowledge of legislation to be able to carry out your duties to the best of your ability
To participate in the Council's Emergency Planning operations, this includes undertaking any necessary training in this department
The successful applicants will also be required to handle and be exposed yo product allergens such as Fish, Peanuts, Tree nuts etc.
The candidate:
Must hold a Level 4 qualification in Food Control or have relevant work experience. For example, trained to undertake extended role functions such as IUU.
A specialist port qualification or higher education certificate in Food/Science is desirable but not essential
Knowledge of BCP is advantageous
Previous experience working with food and health and safety is essential, enforcement or regulatory field would be desirable
Must be flexible to meet the needs of the local authoritative bodies
Can demonstrate good IT skills, especially in Outlook, Word and other MS packages
Excellent communication, both oral and written
Able to show commitment to personal and work oriented goals
Full UK Driving licence and own transport is necessary due to the nature and hours of this role
Additional necessary requirement for this role:
The position involves working shifts covering 24hrs a day / 365 days a year.
Able to work remotely at home or from the Civic Centre in Ashford
The candidate must be comfortable working in temperature-controlled environments or at height
Willing to work in other council locations across the regions
No allergens to fish, peanuts or tree nuts, as these will be prevalent throughout the role
The successful applicant will be required to work on a shift rota, including early, days and nights
