We are looking for a practical, technically capable Engineer to support the maintenance, reliability and continuous improvement of our clients plant and process systems.
This is a varied, hands-on role suited to someone with experience in a processing plant, utilities, water treatment, manufacturing or similar industrial environment. You may come from a mechanical maintenance background, be multi-skilled, or have broader process engineering experience.
A strong understanding of pumps, pipework, fluid/process systems and SCADA-controlled equipment would be particularly valuable.
Key Responsibilities
Carry out planned preventative and reactive maintenance across pumps, generators and associated plant and process equipment.
Diagnose mechanical and process faults, identify root causes and implement effective corrective actions.
Monitor and respond to SCADA/control system alarms, investigating process deviations and equipment faults.
Use SCADA information, trends and operating data to support fault-finding and improve plant performance.
Maintain, repair and troubleshoot pumps, pumping systems, valves, pipework and fluid-handling equipment.
Apply a practical understanding of fluid dynamics, flow, pressure and pumping principles when diagnosing system performance issues.
Install, modify and repair PVC and PE pipework using appropriate welding and fusion techniques, including butt fusion and electrofusion.
Undertake light to medium metal fabrication, including cutting, welding and assembly.
Read, interpret and work from P&IDs, process flow diagrams and technical drawings.
Respond promptly to plant and control room alarms to minimise downtime and maintain safe operation.
Work closely with production and operational teams when isolating machinery or process equipment, ensuring disruption is kept to a minimum.
Support other engineers and contractors with maintenance, installation and improvement projects.
Complete assigned maintenance tasks through the workflow/planned maintenance system, maintaining accurate records and timely updates.
Identify opportunities to improve plant reliability, efficiency and process performance.
Support continuous improvement and preventative maintenance initiatives.
Ensure all work complies with site health & safety procedures, isolation/LOTO requirements and relevant statutory regulations.
Maintain high standards of housekeeping and safe working within engineering and plant areas.
Essential Skills & Experience
Mechanical engineering, maintenance engineering, process engineering or equivalent practical industrial experience.
Previous experience within a processing plant, manufacturing, utilities, water treatment or other process-driven environment.
Good practical knowledge of pumps, pumping systems and industrial pipework.
Understanding of fluid dynamics, including flow, pressure and the behaviour of liquids within process systems.
Experience of fault-finding and troubleshooting mechanical/process equipment.
Experience working with or alongside SCADA systems, PLC-controlled plant or industrial control systems.
Ability to interpret P&IDs, process flow diagrams and technical drawings.
Good understanding of plant operations, isolation procedures and safe systems of work.
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work methodically under pressure.
Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with engineering, production and operational teams.
Reliable, practical and willing to take a hands-on approach to the role.
Desirable Skills & Experience
Time-served Mechanical Engineer or recognised engineering qualification.
