We are partnering with a long-standing local firm who are looking for a reliable, practical and hardworking General Operator / Assistant with FLT experience to join a busy Dumfries operation.
This is a varied, hands-on position supporting the day-to-day running of a busy depot. You'll be involved in loading and unloading equipment, preparing equipment for customers, general yard and warehouse duties, stock movement and assisting customers and colleagues as required.
We're looking for someone who enjoys practical work, is comfortable working outdoors and isn't afraid to muck in wherever needed.
Key Responsibilities
Loading and unloading vehicles safely using a Forklift Truck (FLT) where required.
Moving, storing and organising equipment and stock within the depot and yard.
Preparing equipment and machinery ready for customer hire.
Checking equipment when it is returned from hire, identifying obvious damage or issues and reporting these to the appropriate person.
Cleaning equipment and ensuring it is presented to a good standard before being re-hired.
Assisting customers with the safe collection and return of equipment.
Picking and preparing equipment and orders for customer collection or delivery.
Supporting drivers with loading and unloading vehicles.
Receiving incoming deliveries and checking goods against relevant paperwork.
Ensuring equipment and stock are stored safely and in the correct locations.
Carrying out general yard, warehouse and housekeeping duties.
Keeping work areas clean, tidy and free from hazards.
Assisting with basic equipment checks and minor maintenance tasks where trained and authorised to do so.
Reporting damaged, faulty or missing equipment promptly.
Following all company Health & Safety procedures, particularly when working around vehicles, machinery and lifting equipment.
Skills & Experience
Previous Forklift Truck experience - with a current FLT certificate.
Experience within a yard, warehouse, construction, plant hire, tool hire, builders' merchant or similar practical environment would be advantageous.
Comfortable loading, unloading and moving a variety of equipment and materials.
Good practical ability and confidence working around tools, machinery and equipment.
Physically fit and comfortable carrying out manual handling throughout the working day.
Strong awareness of Health & Safety and safe working practices.
Willing to learn about the company's equipment and products.
Flexible attitude and happy to help wherever required within the depot.
