Fire Alarm Tester - Part Time

Location: Kingston - Upon - Thames

Salary: £17,645

Shifts: Part - Time

Working Pattern: 3 Days Per Week - Tuesday, Wednesday + 1 Flexible Day

HRGO Recruitment are seeking a reliable, organised, and safety-conscious Health and Safety Assistant to join our team at a university in KT1.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out weekly fire alarm testing across multiple buildings in accordance with British Standard 5839-1 and organisational procedures.
  • Test and monitor multiple fire alarm systems as part of a structured compliance programme.
  • Conduct scheduled fire door inspections and report any defects, damage, or non-compliance issues.
  • Maintain accurate records of fire alarm tests, inspections, and observations within fire safety logbooks and electronic compliance systems.
  • Report faults, defects, and system issues promptly through designated reporting systems and help desk processes.
  • Monitor fire safety hazards, including obstructed escape routes, defective fire doors, and inappropriate storage of combustible materials.
  • Support fire drills, fire alarm activation's, fire risk assessments, and fire safety audits.
  • Work closely with fire wardens, security personnel, maintenance teams, and specialist contractors to ensure effective fire safety management.
  • Assist with fire marshal training and fire safety awareness initiatives as required.

Essential Requirements

  • Full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle.
  • Previous experience in a health and safety, facilities management, compliance, or estates-related role.
  • Experience working with fire alarm systems or similar life-safety systems.
  • Knowledge of fire safety legislation, British Standards, and building compliance requirements.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a structured workload.
  • Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach.
  • Health and safety qualification such as IOSH Working Safely, or equivalent.
  • Experience using electronic compliance management systems.
  • Fire marshal training or previous fire safety responsibilities.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong administrative and record-keeping abilities.
  • Basic IT skills, including the use of mobile devices, tablets, and electronic reporting systems.
  • Ability to identify potential risks and escalate issues appropriately.
  • Good level of physical fitness, with the ability to travel between sites and spend extended periods on foot.
