Engineering Manager

Opportunity for a dynamic Engineering Manager to lead and develop the engineering and planning function at this part 145 aviation maintenance organisation in Harlow. This is a hands-on leadership role combining people management with technical ownership and project delivery-ideal for someone who enjoys building teams, improving processes, and driving engineering excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor and develop the engineering and planning teams, promoting collaboration, innovation and high standards.
  • Support performance management, coaching, and career development plans for engineers.
  • Recruit, onboard and retain top engineering talent.
  • Oversee end-to-end delivery of engineering projects, ensuring quality, time and budget targets are achieved.
  • Work closely with Planning, Quality and other stakeholders to define scope, requirements, milestones and resource plans.
  • Allocate resources effectively and prioritise workload to maximise productivity and output quality.
  • Drive technical decision-making and promote best practice in machining and engineering.
  • Identify bottlenecks and implement improvements to processes, workflows and controls.
  • Communicate project status, risks and milestones clearly to senior leadership and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ensure outputs meet relevant standards, security policies and regulatory requirements; manage approved data and technical publications.
  • Undertake other duties within your capabilities as required.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years' engineering experience, including at least 2 years in a leadership/management role.
  • A solid understanding of Part 145 aviation maintenance,
  • Proven experience delivering engineering projects.
  • Strong technical background and the ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
  • Excellent leadership, communication and people management skills.
  • Proactive problem-solver with a continuous improvement mindset.
