Engineering Manager

SITE BASED MON-FRIDAY

Our client is a growing, privately owned advanced engineering business specialising in the design and manufacture of highly technical products for scientific, research and industrial applications. They operate within a multidisciplinary environment encompassing mechanical, electronics, software and physics disciplines, delivering complex engineered solutions from R&D through to manufacture. Following significant business growth and investment in production capability, they are looking to appoint an Engineering Manager to lead their technical teams and support the next phase of expansion.

We welcome all candidates from a scientific instrumentation, precision engineering, defence, aerospace, electronics, or other high-reliability manufacturing environment to build a high-performing engineering team, improve processes, and deliver projects successfully. A hands-on, collaborative leader who can develop people, drive accountability, and lead multidisciplinary teams effectively.

Key responsibilities
- Lead, inspire and develop a multidisciplinary team of engineers and technical staff, fostering a collaborative, high-performance culture.
- Manage technical project groups through all phases of the project lifecycle: requirements capture, design, verification, testing and handover.
- Define and implement engineering processes, design standards and best practices to ensure quality, safety and regulatory compliance.
- Plan and allocate resources, manage budgets, set priorities and track project performance against scope, schedule and cost targets.
- Act as principal technical interface with stakeholders, customers and suppliers to resolve risks and issues and ensure alignment of requirements.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives, lessons learned, and knowledge sharing across teams.
- Lead recruitment, performance management, coaching and career development for engineering staff.
- Ensure robust risk management, technical governance and documentation across projects.

Required qualifications and experience
- A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Physics or a related discipline.
- Significant experience working in a multidisciplinary engineering environment, demonstrating a breadth of exposure to multiple technical domains.
- Proven experience leading engineering teams or technical project groups, with a track record of delivering complex engineering projects.
- Strong technical judgement, problem-solving skills and the ability to make and communicate technical decisions clearly.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with experience engaging senior stakeholders and coordinating cross-functional teams.
- Demonstrable experience of implementing engineering processes, managing budgets and resource planning.

Desirable
- Project management qualification or experience (e.g., Prince2, PMP) and familiarity with systems engineering practices.
- Experience with CAD, simulation tools or specific discipline-related software relevant to the business.
- Experience in regulated industries or with formal design verification and validation processes.
