Are you an experienced Electrical Design Engineer with a background in machinery, automation, or packaging equipment?

We are recruiting for a fantastic opportunity to join a market-leading manufacturer of food processing and packaging machinery based in the St. Neots area. This is a great chance to become part of a successful engineering business working on bespoke automated equipment in a technically varied and rewarding role.

This position would suit someone who enjoys electrical design work for machinery, including control panels, wiring schematics, and integrated electrical systems, and who is comfortable working closely with mechanical and software engineering teams.

Please note: due to the location, own transport is essential.

The Role:

As an Electrical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the electrical design and development of machinery and packaging equipment, ensuring all systems are practical, compliant, and built to a high technical standard.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Produce electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and control panel designs using AutoCAD and/or EPLAN
  • Design electrical systems for automated machinery
  • Work closely with mechanical and software engineers on PLC and HMI integration
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant standards including IEC 60204, ISO 13849, and BS7671
  • Provide technical support during machine build, testing, and troubleshooting
  • Support production and build teams with electrical design input when required
  • Assist with continuous improvement of design processes and documentation

Requirements:

  • HNC, HND, or higher qualification in Electrical Engineering
  • Previous experience in electrical design within machinery, automation, packaging equipment, or special purpose machinery
  • Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD and/or EPLAN
  • Good understanding of PLCs, HMIs, and motor control systems
  • Knowledge of electrical standards and machine safety compliance
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively within an engineering team

Desirable:

  • Experience with Mitsubishi, Siemens, or Allen-Bradley PLCs
  • Knowledge of industrial communication protocols such as Ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP, RS232, and RS485
  • Experience working within food processing, packaging machinery, or a similar manufacturing environment

This is an excellent opportunity for an Electrical Design Engineer looking to join a forward-thinking business where you can play a key role in the development of specialist machinery.
