Our client is offering a unique opportunity to join an exciting and fast-growing business at a pivotal moment. From humble beginnings in the South West only 2 years ago the client now have a team of agents across the UK and an ever-increasing customer base.

In order to support this growth, we are looking to build a team to resource our clients depot operation based just outside Glastonbury in Somerset. The first person we are looking for is an operations manager who will be directly responsible for all aspects of the day to day running of the depot.

Reporting to the Managing Director this is a hands-on role and the successful candidate will be expected to work with and manage a team preparing goods for dispatch and unloading containers of stock as they arrive. They will also be directly involved with the identification and implementation of best working practice and training new staff in line with this as well as health and safety guidelines.

The position is suitable for those who enjoy working outdoors in all weathers and who relish new challenges. The ability to work under their own initiative is essential as is the ability to be flexible as deadlines and tasks change according to circumstances.

You would also be responsible for maintaining the site ensuring it is kept clean, tidy and reporting any issues that may cause a danger or otherwise affect the smooth running of the operation. You will be responsible for ordering consumables such as pallets and packing materials plus ensure that the Forklift is maintained according to its maintenance schedule.

As stocks arrive and as orders are dispatched you will be expected to manage the storage of all stocks in such a way that maximises the available space and facilitates the swift and efficient processing of orders. It is the intention to introduce 'Stock Management Software' in the coming months, you will be responsible for its successful implementation and ensuring stock availability is kept up to date.

Responsible for a considerable value of stock you will ensure damages are minimised through appropriate handling in line with best practice, training all new staff. You will unlock the depot at the beginning of each working day and ensure it is locked and secure before leaving.

Ideally the candidate will have the followings Skills, Qualifications, Attributes although training will be given where required:

1. Experience of working in a goods yard, picking and dispatching orders.

2. Forklift Licence and manual handling experience.

3. Able to carry out physically demanding work in all weathers.

4. Good communications skills, ability to communicate effectively with the owner and other staff.

5. Ability to prioritise tasks and re-prioritise as and when necessary to meet deadlines.

6. Interest in helping the business identify and implement best working practice.

7. Implementing health and safety procedures in line with company policy.

8. Basic IT skills, experience of stock management systems, good telephone manner.

9. Full driving licence, willing to travel / work away from main depot as required.

10. Willing to work flexible hours and occasionally at weekends.

The ideal candidate would currently be working in a goods yard, builders' yard, warehouse etc and looking for the next step although candidates from other backgrounds may be considered if it is felt they have the attitude and life experience to be successful.

The role attracts a salary of £25,000 - £28,000 for the right candidate.
