Position Title

Position: Manual Turner / CNC Miller & Turner (Multi-Skilled Machinist)

Location: Wirral

Hours: Monday to Thursday: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM / Friday: 8:00 AM - 2:30 PM

Overtime

Available on weekdays and Saturday mornings (as workload permits)


Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Manual Turner to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for producing high-precision, one-off components primarily from stainless steel and duplex materials. The role requires a meticulous approach to work, as well as the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings accurately.

In addition, we are also looking for candidates with CNC Milling and CNC turning capabilities (setting/operating as a minimum, with programming/editing beneficial). This is a hands-on, varied role producing one-offs and short-run components to tight tolerances.


Key Responsibilities

Manual Turning

  • Operate traditional lathes, including Dean Smith & Grace, Colchester Mastiff, and Ajax lathes.

  • Set up and adjust lathes according to the specifications of each job.

  • Machine components to tight tolerances while adhering to quality standards.

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.

CNC Milling & CNC Turning

  • Set and operate CNC milling machines and CNC lathes to produce one-off and short-run components.

  • Prove out jobs, select tooling, set offsets, and make safe edits to programs as required.

  • Carry out dimensional inspection using measuring equipment (e.g., micrometres, verniers, and bore gauges), ensuring parts meet drawing requirements.

  • Support continuous improvement by suggesting tooling/process changes to improve quality and efficiency.

General / Shared

  • Ensure proper maintenance of lathes, CNC machines, and associated equipment.

  • Collaborate with team members to optimise manufacturing processes.

  • Participate in any necessary training to operate additional machinery, including the Proturn XYZ lathe.


Qualifications / Experience

  • Time-served and qualified engineer with a background in manual turning.

  • Proven experience working with stainless steel

  • Experience setting and operating CNC milling and CNC turning machines (programming/editing advantageous).

  • Confident working to tight tolerances in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings.
