Job purpose: You will be part of a team that works collaboratively in order to support the delivery of highly personalised, quality care to young people in a homely environment.

Duties and responsibilities

* Create a homely environment that promotes a positive and supportive culture for young people, ensuring they feel safe and valued

* Work as part of a team providing quality care as outlined by each young person's individual care plan

* On a day-to-day basis support young people in every aspect of their daily care (helping them prepare for and get to school, supporting them with their homework, helping them at mealtimes, encouraging regular sleep patterns and support evening and night activities in accordance with the young people's care plan)

* Take the young people on day trips, supporting their hobbies and taking them on holiday

* Support the young people in maintaining and developing positive personal relationships with family, friends and other people important in their life

* Make accurate, clear and appropriate entries in the young people's electronic records, diaries and reports as necessary, in accordance with policies and procedures

* Work with the young people to support their emotional and social development and give them a positive group living experience

* Work with other agencies to support young people, including working closely with schools, police, health professionals, social worker, occupational therapists and CAMHS

* Complete direct work with the young people to support them to transfer to foster care, semi-independent placements, or to their own families

* Carry out administration of medication according to the young person's care plan and policy and procedure, ensuring medication is stored in a safe manner

* Build the young people's life and social skills and enable them to have positive outcomes

* Ensure effective record keeping of all financial transactions and ensure they in accordance with the young people's care plan and policy and procedure

* Create an environment that promotes the dignity and respect of all, in which individual differences and the contributions are recognised and valued.

* Participate in training and take responsibility for continuous personal development.

* To attend and actively contribute to team meetings, supervisions and annual reviews in accordance with policy and procedure and the standards set by the Regulatory Body.

* Maintain standards of behaviour in accordance with Plus One's policies and procedures

* Carry out any other reasonable and relevant duties as required by the management of the home and wider management

Experience, Qualifications & Skills

Essential criteria

* Willing to undertake QCF level 3 diploma in working with children.

To comply with Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015 the diploma must be completed within 2 years of the commencement in post

* Is passionate about the care of children and young people, able to create an environment where children feel safe, nurtured, loved and at home

* Able to set boundaries in a firm but kind way and learn to use different approaches

* Promotes the dignity and respect of all, in which individual differences and the contributions are recognised and valued

* Excellent interpersonal and listening skills

* Ability to communicate well and clearly both verbally and in writing

* Able to work as part of a team to support children, including working closely with other multiagencies

* Able to use a computer at a basic level

* A full manual driving licence

Desirable criteria

* Ability to build lasting effective relationships with children who often struggle to trust and open up to professionals

* Knowledge and/or experience of the caring profession

* Knowledge and/or experience of safeguarding and risk management

* An understanding of Health and Safety legislation

* Knowledge and understanding of the impact of trauma on children

* A willingness to increase knowledge through continuous professional development
