An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced logistics professional to join a successful and expanding organisation with a strong international presence.

We're looking for a confident Assistant Shipping Manager who can take ownership of day-to-day shipping activities, ensure compliance across global shipments, and provide effective leadership to a busy packing and dispatch team.

The Role

You will play a key role in supporting the movement of goods across domestic and international markets, ensuring products are shipped efficiently, accurately, and in line with all regulatory requirements. This position combines operational logistics management with team supervision, making it ideal for someone who enjoys both hands-on problem-solving and people management.

The role:

  • Oversee the coordination of inbound and outbound shipments across multiple transport modes.
  • Manage customs and export documentation to ensure smooth international movement of goods.
  • Monitor shipping schedules and proactively resolve delivery or compliance issues.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a packing team to achieve operational targets and maintain high standards.
  • Work closely with freight providers, suppliers, and internal departments to ensure seamless communication throughout the supply chain.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Maintain accurate shipment records and reporting through business systems and logistics software.

The candidate:

  • At least 3 years' experience within shipping, logistics, or international distribution.
  • A minimum of 2 years' experience supervising or managing operational teams.
  • Strong working knowledge of customs procedures, import/export regulations, Incoterms, Brexit-related shipping requirements, and UK HMRC compliance.
  • Experience using warehouse management or ERP systems
  • Proven ability to lead teams, manage workloads, and perform effectively in a fast-moving environment.
  • Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail and a practical approach to problem-solving.
