Salary Guide: Competitive

Hours: 36-hour week, Monday to Friday - Early finish on a Friday at 12.15pm

Location: Harlow, Essex

An exciting opportunity for a Toolmaker to join the Tool Room and Model Shop Team.

The company is a leading, long established medical instrumentation design and manufacturer.

The Toolmaker be responsible for:

  • The modification, repair and maintenance of injection mould tools on-site, in line with the production requirements to support the business objectives.
  • Make or improve tooling to enable the production processes to be as efficient as possible.
  • Improve and sustain mould tooling and tooling performance, cycle times, setting procedures, scrap reduction and tool life.

Key Tasks:

  • Repair and maintenance of tooling.
  • Tooling modifications.
  • Support new tooling for new product introductions to ensure the robustness of product builds.
  • Work on CNC mills, lathes, drills, grinders and spark eroders accurately and to tight tolerances.
  • Dismantle service, repair and re-assemble all moulds, jigs and fixtures for production.
  • Use of Drawing tools
  • Work out cutters and tool paths on CAM software for the manufacture of die's etc.
  • Repair and fault finding on mould tools and hot runner systems.
  • Work as part of a team and manage priorities and workload.

Core Competencies:

  • Ability to read engineering drawings.
  • Good knowledge of the manufacture, service and repair of injection moulds tools, press tools, jigs, fixtures and all models.
  • Knowledge of materials used for tool making, mouldings and models.
  • Ability to operate computers (CAD and CAM software).
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to design small moulds, jigs and fixtures for production.
  • To have initiative on design and problem solving.
  • Abrasive wheels safety certificate.
  • Knowledge and use of all oils, cutting fluids, glues, paint spraying and inspection equipment.
