HR GO is pleased to work in partnership with Sedgemoor District Council to provide a team of Cleansing Operatives to maintain a clean and safe environment for the public.

We are looking to extend the existing team with additional Cleansing Operatives on a temporary basis. The roles are to start in early April for 4 weeks initially, though is likely to be extended further.

About the job:
In this cleansing role, you'll play a pivotal part in the day-to-day maintenance and cleanliness of public areas. You will be working outdoors, currently undertaking lone-working practices.


Duties include:

  • To carry out manual sweeping, litter picking, litter bin emptying, leaf fall collection and other general cleansing duties throughout the area.

  • To dispose of all waste arising in an effective manner and accordance with appropriate legislation relating to waste disposal.

  • To check equipment and company vehicle if using one, on a regular basis and as directed, ensuring that defects are reported promptly.

  • To ensure that all appropriate Health and Safety requirements are observed.

  • There is the potential of assisting the Grounds Maintenance team with grass-cutting/strimming and similar duties as required.

Hours of work:
37 hours per week. Full-time hours will be worked as day shifts Monday - Friday, with the potential of some weekend overtime. Start and finish times are likely to be staggered between the team but will be operated as day shifts with an early finish on Fridays.

Please note, the working day starts and ends at the Clean Surroundings Depot at Colley Lane, Bridgwater, Somerset.

What skills and experience should you have?

With previous cleaning / outdoor working experience, you'll have:

  • Great time-management

  • Excellent organisational skills

  • Initiative and a positive can-do attitude

  • Polite and friendly manner

  • Pride in your work

  • A driving licence would be an advantage but not essential
