ROLE: SQL Server Database Administrator Responsible to: ICT Server Team Leader Responsible for: No line management responsibility Job Purpose: Responsible for the implementation, configuration, maintenance and performance of all SQL Server instances, to ensure security, availability and consistent performance of databases. Main Duties & Accountabilities 1 Proactively manage work load, setting appropriate priorities to ensure work is completed in line with project timescales and Service Level Agreements (SLA) ensuring customer expectations are managed throughout. Escalate workload issues to ICT Server Team Leader for resolution. 1 Manage the development of databases and database infrastructure that are critical to service delivery over the long term and in accordance with accepted best practice. 1 Configure and maintain database servers and processes, including monitoring of system health and performance, to ensure high levels of performance, availability and security. Using available SQL tools to aid performance tuning, identifying issues and resolving them. 1 Create, modify and configure database maintenance plans, ensuring database backups are undertaken and disaster recovery plans are in place and tested. 1 Support reporting requirements through SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) 1 Undertake assessment, analysis, documentation and implementation of all database changes in line with published Change Control processes. Maintain complete, current and accurate records of all changes. 1 Adhere to all operational processes and procedures that cover all areas of the ICT Team's responsibilities to ensure compliance with ISO 27001 and ITIL standards. Ensure required records kept are complete, current and accurate. 1 Liaise with external suppliers in relation to support, maintenance and improvements to databases and applications. 1 To undertake any other duties of a similar level and responsibility as may be required. 2 To attend meetings and such training/personal development courses as may be considered necessary. 3 The post holder is required to comply with relevant health and safety legislation and theService policies and procedures of the Service in the performance of his/her duties. This includes the requirement to take reasonable care of themselves and others affected by their work activities, use equipment correctly and apply safe-working practices effectively, to remove or minimise risk of accident, injury or ill health. 1 Practice and promote equality and diversity and the fair and equitable treatment of all staff and customers within the scope of the post. 2 To support and participate in the formulation of standards and procedures for quality management and customer care expectations. 3 Solely responsible for secure, resilient and highly available databases to two fire and rescue services with combined ICT user's c1250. 4 High degree of responsibility and autonomy in supporting and maintaining both non-critical and mission critical corporate databases used by both operations and support. 1 Due to the confidential nature of data under the post holders control, they must have a high degree of discretion when dealing with confidential matters.
