Seasonal Coast Enforcement Officer
Role:
● To be a visible enforcement presence around our coast, especially at peak times.
● Dealing re actively with complaints, proactively dealing with other issues the rest of the time based on intelligence and reports received.
● Educating, informing, and challenging the public on anti-social behaviours and breach of coastal code of conduct
● To be approachable, taking a firm but fair approach to managing compliance around our coast
● Working with our beach and coast team, other enforcement officers, wardens, bay inspectors and local businesses
To deliver a high-quality service to the public that is consistent, open, balanced and in the first instance takes an educative approach.
Accountability's:
To have a good working knowledge of the following areas and responsibilities:
- To have a good knowledge of all relevant legislation.
- To have an excellent knowledge of the district and its coast.
- Be comfortable with engaging with the public, education, persuading and challenging behaviour where needed
- To use judgement as to what action is required how to pursue the case and to take decisions and appropriate actions. As a fully authorised officer in the field to communicate this to the public, business and perpetrators as best fits the situation on a case-by-case basis.
- To develop conclusions and implement recommendations with minimal additional guidance from senior staff.
- To undertake enforcement action where required and proportionate to the situation.
- To draft, authorise and serve legal notices and fixed penalty notices as appropriate and to prepare all preparatory paperwork necessary in order that a case may be taken to court.
- To resolve complaints and communicate results to the public and businesses in a firm but sensitive manner often in confrontational circumstances.
- To provide expert advice and guidance to the public, other department members and colleagues.
- Adhere to all GDPR requirements.
- To use digital systems such as google suite, and others as determined by our client, to input, analyse, store and access information and data.
The ideal Candidate:
- Good level of physical fitness as most of the working day will be spent patrolling beaches and coast, sometimes in all weathers
- Able to work alone and as part of a team confidently
- Working outside normal Mon-Fri pattern. Weekend working is essential.
- Minimum Qualifications 5 GCSE's or Equivalent
- Previous experience of Environmental Enforcement issues.
- Thorough knowledge of the relevant legislation, in this case the Anti-social behaviour, Crime and Policing Act.
- Previous experience of working within an enforcement role or similar environment dealing with confrontational and sensitive situations.
- Ability to communicate with a range of partners objectively and persuasively where necessary.
- Ability to write clear and concise letters, statements and reports, the content of which may be complex and very often of a sensitive nature.
- Undertaken formal or informal training
- Full, clean Driver's License
- Good Conflict Management and Interpersonal Skills.
- Honesty, integrity and trustworthiness.
- Willingness to carryout investigations and inspections outside normal office hours.
Working Environment:
You will be required to work weekends throughout the summer, and some evenings.
