We are representing a firm of accountants with offices in Somerset and Devon and have a very busy and expanding Payroll bureau. We are looking to recruit a payroll assistant to join their team of eight based in our Chard office.
Working as part of the payroll team you will have responsibility for weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual payrolls, pensions, auto enrolment and RTI. As well as the timely and accurate delivery of payroll and related client services, you will be responsible for record keeping, HMRC and client reporting.
All payrolls are run on Payroll Professional (STAR) and experience of this software is desirable, however applications from individuals with other payroll software experience are very welcome. Payroll qualifications are desirable but not essential as long as you have the necessary payroll bureau/practice experience including a strong understanding of payroll processes, tax codes, NI, auto enrolment and manual calculations.
The successful candidate will possess excellent communication skills and a friendly telephone manner, will be comfortable liaising with colleagues and third parties and enjoy working in a team environment. Excellent attention to detail and ability to prioritise your own work load is essential.

Summary of position·
Processing a variety of weekly, fortnightly, four weekly and monthly payroll cycles
Statutory payments, sickness and holiday calculations
Submitting RTI to HMRC and liaising regarding any queries
Processing BACS payments
Auto-enrolment, pension assessment and uploads to NEST
Submitting CIS returns
Client contact
Good working knowledge of all areas of Payroll, RTI and current HMRC reporting requirements
Experience in processing multiple payrolls and multiple frequencies
Able to carry out manual calculation
Numerate and High levels of IT literacy
Competent user of Excel to Intermediate level as a minimum
Good planning, organisational and prioritisation skills
Attention to detail and self-motivated
Sound communication skills, ability to use own initiative and a good team player

Minimum 2 years recent experience using Sage or Payroll Professional (STAR)
Full time - 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday although 30 hours over four days would be considered.
Part-time hours: 30-37.5 per week
