HR GO Education are currently working with a School based in South Manchester area. They require an experienced Finance Officer to fulfil a maternity leave contract, starting in mid November 2022

School Finance Officer - £80 to £85 per day

We are seeking to appoint a Finance Officer who is ideally AAT qualified, who will have overall responsibility for the efficient and secure administration of the school's finances on a day-to-day basis, reporting to the Headteacher.

Previous experience of school finance would be advantageous, with experience working with FMS (the schools computer system for creating purchase orders and inputting invoices)

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Overseeing the liaison with staff re placing orders Where relevant researching suppliers re. best value
  • Raising of orders for educational equipment, stock order, monitoring stocks and topping up when necessary, ensuring curriculum orders are delivered to correct departments/locations
  • Dealing with any queries about orders
  • Responsible for the school budget and expenditure
  • Expenditure and coding of invoices with the correct expenditure code, ensuring they are logged on the system, distributing to budget holders for authorisation.
  • Raising manual cheques for payment where required. Organising a regular cheque run, ensuring creditor terms are maximised.
  • Matching of cheques to invoices, passing for signature, ensuring invoices are filed and cheques posted.
  • Overseeing the raising of credit notes/cancelling invoices.
  • Ensuring statements are checked and copy invoices requested when needed.
  • Ensuring adequate funds in debit card account for purchases to be made and cash book journals
  • End of month reporting to the Head
  • Recording non invoiced income against relevant expenditure code
  • Petty Cash Overseeing requests from staff for advances/reimbursements and the distribution of cash/cheques
  • Overseeing posting records on system
  • Arranging for reimbursement cheque to be cashed
  • Obtaining/collecting cash from bank System
  • Housekeeping - Having an overall awareness of the need to match spending to Budget, alerting Business
  • Chasing all outstanding debts from lettings and parents and liaising with Legal Services as and when required
  • Dealing with payroll enquiries
  • Making any emergency payroll payments
  • Monitoring expenditure does not exceed income

The ideal candidate

  • School Finance Officer experience or similar experience
  • Ideally AAT qualified, but this is not essential
  • Have used FMS (the schools computer system for creating purchase orders and inputting invoices)
  • DBS on the update service or be willing to have one processed
  • Can start in November 2022 and will be able to fulfil the full years maternity contract.
  • Able to work full time hours, Monday to Friday

Hours of work: Monday to Friday 8.30am - 4.30pm

The role is to start at the end of November 2022 to cover a years maternity leave.
