Employee Relations Advisor

Be the first point of contact to support line managers with advice, coaching and guidance on a variety of employee relations issues including disciplinary & grievance matters, absence management (including long term sick), performance and capability matters, ensuring all advice complies with legislation and is in line with company specific policies and procedures * Coach managers through managing employee related issues to ensure ownership of issues and development of line manager skills * Provide guidance to management on how to manage potential employee related issues at the informal stage prior to any formal action and necessary follow on actions * Provide effective, practical advice and guidance to line managers on how to manage employee related issues in line with the company policy. Encompassing first warnings through to dismissal * Ensure line managers understand how to conduct meetings, including advice on meeting preparation, format and recording. Create meeting frameworks, scripts and template letters as required. * Proactively monitor & manage cases, ensure cases are prioritised and support is provided to line managers as soon as possible to ensure cases are resolved in a timely manner * Advise and manage on long term sick cases, including home visits, occupational health referrals and commercial options to manage these Role Support in managing People related policies such as flexible working, maternity, paternity, adoption and shared parental leave cases ensuring consistency across policy and process * Review proposed legislative changes such as Gender Pay, GDPR etc. Undertake an assessment of impact against existing policy/procedure highlighting changes required to ensure compliance. In conjunction with the Employee Relations Manager implement the resulting change plan ensuring achievement of key dates to achieve/maintain compliance * Provide monthly reports including information on ongoing cases as well as data in respect of the People related activity, including highlighting any actions/decisions for management and recommendations for consideration * Be responsible for the development of People related policies, procedures and practices. Ensure policy development supports good employee relations, incorporates employment law changes and are effectively implemented into day to day operations * Ensure accurate maintenance of all People records and HR database in relation to employee relations issues and employee warnings. * Build good relationships across the business and work shadow to ensure a thorough understanding of the operation to better inform the employee relations advice * Ensure any high-risk cases are highlighted to senior management in a timely fashion and legal counsel is obtained where required. * Support the L&D team in creating and delivering training in respect of management skills by providing an overview of areas for improvement and some real-life case studies to demonstrate this * Assist the Employee Relations Manager in People related projects encompassing employee engagement, reward & remuneration, performance management and organisational development processes * Maintain an up to date knowledge of employment law, case law and best practice, taking initiative for own personal development in relation to People practices Solid experience in an advisory role in a multi-site company. Experience in dealing with a wide range of employee relation issues with varying degrees of complexity, across a variety of business functions * Commercially astute and able to provide the business with options whilst outlining any associated risks * Strong communication skills. Able to deliver advice verbally and then follow up in writing in a methodical and clear manner that is easy to understand and follow * Strong stakeholder management. Confident to engage at all levels of the organisation effectively and professionally. Not afraid to challenge line managers and escalate to a more senior manager where required * Strong influencing ability * Organised, structured and methodical.
