Design Engineer Harlow A Design Engineer is required by leading established medical instrumentation design and manufacturer. The Design Engineer main purpose is will be research, design and development of respiratory products. These products are used in diagnosis, monitoring and drug delivery. Duties: * To use design skills to undertake projects in accordance with the New Product Development Plan and complete within timescales and cost parameters and target restraints. * To support members of the New Product Development Team, as part of a multi-functional team. * To liaise with other Departments, Contractors and Customers as necessary. * To document and record designs, test results, findings, ideas, specifications etc. Core Competencies: * Ability to create and apply mechanical design principles to projects. * Ability to work independently and as part of a team. * Ability to use the tools supplied for the pursuit of research and development which includes 3D modelling tools and other such office tools. * Ability to use testing equipment to evaluate outputs of the design process and compare to marketed products. Key Tasks: * Research and design new projects. * Input into design specification. * Build and maintain the project files to required standard. * Build proto-type assemblies in order to demonstrate the feasibility of in-house designed projects. * Testing and data collection of proto-types through to final production build. * Liaising with manufacturing, including tooling creation and validation. * To undertake any such reasonable additional tasks as are deemed necessary to fulfil the role. * To be aware of the Company's Health and Safety Policy and to ensure that any hazards and/or accidents are reported to a Health and Safety Representative as appropriate and to be aware of safety issues throughout the Company. Knowledge & Experience: * Working knowledge of high and low volume manufacturing processes, including injection molding. * Experience in a 3D CAD package. (Inventor ideal) * Knowledge of the full product development process from conceptual design through to manufacturing ramp up. * Experience working on life critical products, designs with mechanical backups, rugged designs and or medical devices. * Qualifications in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Medical Engineering or Industrial Engineering or Product Design (or equiv.)
