HRGO are seeking a Clinical Coder for our client based in Gillingham. As an Accredited Clinical Coder, you will be required to analyse and abstract complex clinical information from records across all specialties using a wide range of source documentation and translate clinical terminology into a coded format in accordance with National Clinical Coding Standards and Trust guidelines. Accurately coded clinical data is essential in ensuring the Trust is accurately reimbursed, and to ensure problems and procedures undertaken are accurately reflected for statistical purposes.
This role is very important and requires a person with commitment and dedicated ethics, which will be in line with the departmental and Trust's vision. This position is currently a Hybrid role with the potential of full time WFH is to be confirmed.
Key Responsibilities:
To analyse and abstract complex diagnostic and procedural information from patient records across all clinical specialties.
To translate diagnostic and procedural information using ICD-10 and OPCS classifications and enter coding onto the Trust's PAS via encoding software.
To routinely access all electronic clinical systems available to ensure all relevant details are recorded for each patient spell.
To maintain high levels of concentration for long periods to ensure all discharged patient spells are coded by SUS submission deadlines.
To assist in resolving coding queries as raised by members of the Clinical Coding team, sharing expertise and assisting in the interpretation of complex information ensuring national standards are met.
To apply sound independent judgement using learned clinical coding principles when assigning codes for areas that fall outside of national standard or clinical coding process
Experience
Practical experience of working in a clinical coding setting using ICD10 & OPCS in a large organisation.
Coding experience in all clinical specialties
Experience using encoder software and PAS systems
Experience using various clinical systems including EPR
Experience working in high concentration/pressure situations maintaining high standards for long periods
Knowledge & Skills
Thorough understanding of the latest National Clinical Coding Standards
Detailed understanding of the Payment by Results (PbR)/National Tariff Payment System (NTPS) and Healthcare Resource Groups (HRGs)
Detailed understanding of statistical uses of coded data including Hospital Standardised Mortality Ratio (HSMR)
In-depth understanding of human anatomy
Extensive knowledge of medical terminology
Qualifications
Has passed a Clinical Coding Refresher Course within the last 3 years
Clinical Coding Standards Course
Clinical Coding Workshops including: Neoplasms - Vascular - Obstetrics - T&O
Evidence of ongoing professional development
Salary - Band 6 - bewteen £16.52 - £19.96 per hour.
This is a 12-month contract, with a start in January 2023. Hours are Monday - Friday, 7.5hrs per day worked between 06.00 - 18.00.
